Burn out in any industry is a real problem and is plentiful in Network Marketing. So in asking the question, Why do network marketers get burned out, one would have to look at the industry as a whole.
Network marketing in total has a rotten reputation and is tainted with all sorts of unscrupulous people. So when anyone decides to join the industry they do so at their own peril. Many join companies unknowingly that have a reputation of changing the rules of the game anytime they want, thus leaving casualties in their wake.
I have been with several companies over the years who have decided to change the rules in the middle of the game thus causing many distributors to lose income. I did not do my due diligence, and got caught up in the changes. Let me set the record straight here, I like network marketing and think its a great business model but many times greed drives owners and voila, you get a mess.
So when an individual joins a company and puts their heart and soul into building their business and that particular company takes a different tack, they lose, and they have to do it all over again. This presents a huge frustration and burn-out.
So how do you make sure that burnout in the network marketing industry won’t happen to you?
You have to do your due diligence and make sure the particular company that you are looking at doesn’t have a history of making abrupt changes. When you are presented a business opportunity from a network marketing company ask the question, “How many times in the history of the company have they changed the compensation plan?” Don’t take “I don’t know” for an answer.
Your blood, sweat, and many times tears is at stake. Without understanding how many times the potential company has changed their comp plan may cause you severe aggravation down the road. As I said before it has happened to me and many others, only to leave us back at square one, having to do it all over again.
Recently, one of my current network marketing companies that I have been with for over 6 years, put forth a punitive change in their compensation plan. They raised the required CV [Customer Volume] level needed to get paid residual income by more than 100%. By doing this they will have many people not making the requirement and therefore the company will keep the residual income that was supposed to be paid out to the distributor. Moves like this are driven by greed with no concern about the welfare of the distributor.
This particular move will have drastic repercussions to their current distributors that have not worked real hard lately but are drawing their pay checks. The whole reason to build a network marketing business is to have a revenue stream down the road, but if the company is constantly changing the rules there is no protection.
So to eliminate burn out and stress find a company that has not changed the compensation programs in a negative way and maintains consistency with their distributors. Many times changes in the comp plan are for the better but a lot of times they can be costly to the distributor. If a company has a history of raising the requirements then run like hell away from the company.
Many times changes are good only if they are benefiting the distributor and customers, but when they are put in place and it is blatantly obvious that it’s in the companies best interest, its not a good move. I guess the only way to make sure that this has happened is to ask the right questions and keep asking them. Google is a great source for information and when companies make bad changes they eventually end up on google which is kinda like having 60 Minutes knocking at your door.
